Ice, Ice, Baby.
We are under a Winter Storm Warning…with this round serving up an extra helping of ice.
Following tradition, we set up a tent in the living room for the kids to camp out tonight.
Widespread power outages are expected…so they are tucked in with flashlights in one hand…Oreos in the other.
His Oreos are in his tummy.
We enjoyed a nice hot meal of Cheesy Chicken, rice, and veggies…accepting the fact that our next dinner may be hotdogs on the grill.
The pantry is stocked with all manner of Pop Tarts and other luxuries to make our weekend comfortable…even enjoyable…including my new buddy “Coleman”.
He is a flameless, catalytic heater that runs off propane…safe to use indoors…without risk of fire, asphyxiation, and death (bonus).
Tommy T is finishing up painting our master bedroom tonight. Thank HEAVENS you don’t need electricity for that. All he needs is an excuse…it is so CLOSE to being finished!!!!
My plans? Off to make a batch of fresh salsa…while my Vitamix can still be powered up. (Must have chips and salsa – so the hot dogs don’t feel so “primal”).
And when I’m done with that…a hot bath…candles…lavender bath salts….and a Philip Elcano CD. If the predictions are accurate, it could be the last hot water my skin feels for some time.
And there is NOTHING like going into an ice storm with a fresh pita.
And with that, I bid you farewell. Please join me in a prayer that our trees don’t fall on our house. Amen.
Oh yes, one more thing…I have a client who has been having contractions regularly. Pray that her labor will hold off until the ice melts. Now really, Amen.

Every Boy’s Dream
Bradley spotted “press on toenails” at the store today and begged for them.
I was concerned at first… until he said, “I need those. You put them on your toes and it makes them really sharp and helps you climb up trees.”
Phewy.

Yes…We Celebrated Christmas
This post is better late than never…
Grandma drove down on Christmas Eve to celebrate with us. The kids were so excited to see her!
After our usual Christmas Eve traditions…the kids bathed and had a few stories.
Bradley wanted to make sure Santa’s reindeer (is the plural form “reindeers”?) were lured to our house…so he spread reindeer food all over the lawn.
He tapped this little guy on the belly…and whispered a little snow prayer.
The cookies were baked and set out for Santa…and then Bryce…the little cookie monster was tempted.
He followed the usual pattern…
He encountered the temptation…and weighed out his options.
He tried to fight the urge… (this reminds me of Edward trying to avoid looking at Bella in the cafeteria.)
He started to succumb to the urge…see his finger???
He was caught…and was remorseful…
And then…the anger stage set in.
He didn’t care about the risk of making the naughty list. Santa could keep his presents! He wanted another damned cookie!!
It was obvious it was time to tuck the kids into bed…even though some resisted sleep…
Before long…not a creature was stirring... Except the photographer.
The snow prayer was heard.
Christmas 2009…
Don’t be alarmed…that’s Grandma’s “Oh good grief!” face. She liked her present…uh lot. I love that face.
Christmas morning was topped of with Williams-Sonoma sticky buns (oh my). We spent the day lounging and playing with the kids…enjoying the snow…and juicing Christmas of every last drop of joy.
It was a Christmas we’ll never forget.

First Saturday
The first Saturday of this decade was glorious. We slept in, for starters. I got up and showered and Tom cooked breakfast. I think it should be Tom’s resolution to cook breakfast every Saturday morning :) Wouldn’t life be great if we could make other’s people’s resolutions for them?
We said “housework schmousework” and headed to the mall to ride the carousel.
I TOLD you this was going to be a great year!
We then went to the family bathroom together… a treat :) Big toilet…little toilet…big sink…little sink…
Nothing ties a family together like group urination.
The kids had some lunch…
Bryce had a bit too much to drink…but still tried to drive.
The kids cashed in their Dairy Queen coupons…
Then we all attempted to fit into the tiny photo booth to take our picture together. We concluded that only one adult butt was going to fit…and since mine was already wedged in the seat…I was the winner.
*note Bryce and the panic attack in shot #3*
A great way to start the new year, indeed.
