Last weekend we volunteered to watch our friend’s kids so they could go back for a High School Reunion. We had previously planned to be in KC that weekend for some Fall festivities…so instead of cancelling the trip…we took them with us :)
Our first stop was Great Wolf Lodge. The kids enjoyed a bedtime story.
They even got a goodnight hug from the wolf, herself.
The slumber party began!
We spent the next day playing on all of the waterslides, floating on the lazy river, and playing on the pool obstacle course. There was hardly anyone there because it was a school day. Yes, we let them skip school for the trip. A wise woman once told me that if a child gets an award for perfect attendance…then you can be sure that the poor kid isn’t having enough fun in his life. Amen. So we enjoyed a day of no lines, no waiting, just playing.
My favorite part of the day was watching Tom on this snake…
He would wait for kids to climb on it – and then THROW his body on the tail of the snake….launching the kids(and the snake) into the air. I couldn’t decide which was more entertaining to watch…the kids…or him. I bootlegged this pic off the internet…but cut the strangers heads off to protect their identity.
We took the kids to Culver’s for lunch – even though we had eaten dinner there the night before. Can you EVER have too many butter burgers? “Yes”, exclaims my A**!!!!
Later that afternoon we went to see Nanny McPhee.
I loved it. ♥ I even cried the ugly cry.♥
That night we ordered take out from The Cheesecake Factory. Tom and I enjoyed our dinner and grown up conversation in an adjoining room - while the kids picnicked as they watched a kids show.
I spent the remainder of my night trying to get Bradley to the next level of Mario Brothers on his DS.
I even woke up in the middle of the night and tried my luck again….to no avail.
On Saturday morning, we met Grandma and drove down to Louisburg, KS for The Louisburg Cider Mill “Ciderfest”.
Bryce was quick to secure his bag of Kettle Corn and had the stink eye going to keep potential corn thieves at bay.
We got to see the apple cider being made. I must admit that I was disturbed with the “conditions”. I always pictured it being made in a big, sterile factory with spotless white floors, shiny stainless steel machines, and a glistening epoxy floor. Suddenly I had flashbacks of all the news reports of E. Coli being found in Apple Cider. The puzzle pieces were beginning to come together.
Nevertheless, we still stopped to enjoy a cup of it – paired with the most DELICIOUS, warm, apple cider donuts…ever. Miraculously, none of us fell ill.
The kids saddled up for a pony ride.
They enjoyed the inflatable bounce house, too.
The kids snuck in cuddles with their Grandma amidst all the excitement.
My favorite part of the festival was the hayride through the corn fields and pumpkin patch.
The kids had fun exploring the ten acre, werewolf corn maze…and feeding the goats and pigs.
They also played in the teepees, sat by the fire, played on the jungle gym and sand piles.
They were just so happy to be sharing this trip with their favorite people…Grandma, Sicily and Macy.
Exhausted, a few of them fell asleep on the way home.
Can’t wait to go back next year!!!
