It's sad when it's too hot to even swim.
Yesterday we opted to try and beat the heat with a trip to the Roller Rink.
What a great word...."Rink".
In the past, Bryce has always been an observer. He would look at the skates with suspicion...as if he knew the skates wanted to break his arm or skin his knee.
Yesterday, Bryce faced his fears head on and decided he needed to get under that Disco Ball and show everyone what he had goin' on.
Sadly, I was at the mercy of my iPhone to photograph this momentous occasion. (I just had to type 'occasion' 4 different times. That's a word that I have never been able to spell. Do you have words like that?)
It was only appropriate that he wore his John Deere socks for his debut.
I loved holding his hand. Yesterday we were walking into Target and he reached up to hold my hand. I thought I was going to melt into a pile of Goo. To me, not much tops the feeling of having your baby's hand in yours. Heaven.
I loved to see him so happy and proud of himself.
Karah was like a gazelle :)
And Bradley was a speed skating, sweat hog.
He looks like a bat out of Hell, but don't worry... he's in control.
Speaking of sweat...we weren't able to escape the heat as much as we had hoped. It was hotter than a brick oven beanery. Once in awhile, we would pass the air vent on the far end of the rink and catch two seconds of air.
Here I am looking especially delicious and schwetty. At one point I was worried that my sweat was going to cause a hazard to the little kids.
I was sure someone was going to hit a puddle.
Bradley was mortified that I made him pose. I think he thought that if he didn't look at the camera, it wasn't really happening. Denial is such a beautiful thing.
Our fun ended the way it usually does at the Roller Rink.... with someone having a panic attack because they can't get their skate off. Today's winner was Boo.
We stopped at Sonic for Happy Hour for a drink. I say that like it was some special treat...when in reality, it's on our daily To-Do list. That probably isn't a good thing. It's crazy what triple digit heat makes you feel entitled to.
One final "Hooray!" for Bryce as he took another step towards becoming a man. Another fear conquered----another skill learned.
How adorable. We miss you guys. I need to call soon once I am able to hold still for five minutes. And tell Bradley I can totally relate to his skating methods. The only way I knew how to stop skating was to gracefully step off the rink and slam into the wall (at 3 mph). It was glamorous to watch and I was ALWAYS in control as well. Congrats on becoming a man Bryce! A man, that still holds his Mama's hand....love it.
ReplyDeletemy word like that is "definitely"...definately? definiteley? definetly? Every time. That and vacuume (vaccum? vacuum?)...but really, does ANYone out there know how to spell that one?
ReplyDeleteRoller rink. Great idea.
I am sweaty, swollen and sweltering in this heat. Happy hour is a must for us as well. and hey, "real fruit" smoothies counts as nutrition, right? It's "fruit". It counts at my house, anyway. Then again, so do grape popsicles at this point...
The Brycer will soon be the "racer" - watch out world!!! I hope he continues to wear his John Deere socks - that way others can see him coming!!! hahaha Looks like everyone had a super fantastic time. It's wonderful how you build summer memories in your children's minds and hearts. I love my Mama Sarah!
